INTRODUCTION
This tested and proven Weight Control Program has been developed
by Harold K. Myers Ph.D., Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal, working in collaboration
with Lawrence Klein and a team of psychologists, nutritionists, and physiologists
specializing in weight control.
Most overweight people have been involved in controlling weight through an
endless variety of diets, most of which place the emphasis on caloric restriction,
high protein intake, fasting and a variety of other methods. Unfortunately,
the focus of these diets is placed on what is eaten rather that why it is eaten.
Unless a program includes behavioral and emotional causes of maladaptive eating
patterns, it is destined to fail, and the dieter will constantly be in a vicious
cycle of dieting, rebelling against the diet, eating excessively, feeling guilty
and then dieting again.
The weight control through the biofeedback program is truly a different approach
to achieving your ideal weight. Instead of focusing on a quick fix diet, you
will learn to recognize that excessive eating and dieting is addictive behavior
dictated by your subconscious mind.
The program is simple. It involves getting in touch with both your emotions
and your internal sensations - including hunger and satiation and performing
only 30 minutes of aerobic exercise each day. You will learn to achieve a state
of deep relaxation using biofeedback together with positive reprogramming of
your subconscious. In the deep state of relaxation you attain through biofeedback,
you will learn to control and eliminate the subconscious urges to overeat and
miseat. In accomplishing these goals, you will also develop and practice strategies
to overcome some of the most common problems you may encounter and change the
way you think about your body and your relationship to food. Most importantly,
the program provides you with a positive mental state to make the journey towards
